After two years of growth, this garden in the Pacific Northwest is filling in fast
Hi GPODers !
So far , the theme of this week ’s submission is garden progress and evolution , which is really inspiring me to keep on top of my task as we trudge though the high temperature and humidity of August here in Connecticut ! Yesterday we saw unbelievable garden rooms make in four unretentive old age in Rhode Island ( if you missed it , check it out here ) , and today we ’re heading to the paired glide to get an update on a garden we first learn a match years ago ( Lizzi ’s Walla Walla Garden ) . Lizzi has been toilsome at employment , and the progress in her garden is unbelievable :
Hi , You featured my Walla Walla , Washington back thou 2 years ago in GPOD . The photos were from other June and the plantings were rather unexampled . This group of photograph was taken this hebdomad , late July and show how my bed have fill up in . Some of my plants have fill in enough to divide and run up the picture together better- specifically lamb ’s spike ‘ Helen Von Stein’(Stachysbyzantina‘Helen Von Stein ’ , Zones 4–9)and variegated sweet iris(Irispallida‘Variegata ’ , Zones 4–9).I’ve also lend more geranium ‘ Rozanne’(Geranium‘Rozanne ’ , Zones 5–8).My best-loved plant this summer is an yearly I develop from seed : purpleGomphrenaglobosa . The bright imperial pompoms make me and the bee well-chosen . But by far my favorite gain to the garden is n’t a industrial plant — it ’s my out of practice power train sculptures . There was a GPOD a while back that featured a garden with rusty gears and I preserve it for inspiration(check out that post here : Repurposed Garden Decor).Last class I scored a number of boxwood of old gears from a cat scavenge out his service department . I used rebar to pile them securely and elevated some of them off the basis with old terracotta sewer piping sections . I have seven of these stacks sprinkle throughout the railyard now .

A garden bed with bright pops of colour and lots of funky , spiky leafage texture that includes : Liatris , midget earth blue spruce ( Piceapungens‘Globosa ’ , Zones 2–8 ) , fountain grass ‘ Burgundy Bunny ’ ( Pennisetumalopecuroides‘Burgundy Bunny ’ , Zones 5–9 ) , veronica ‘ Purpleicious ’ ( Veronica‘Purpleicious ’ , zone 4–8 ) , genus Echinacea ‘ Magnus ’ ( Echinaceapurpurea‘Magnus ’ , Zones 3–8 )
More fab foliage and some sensational germ heads , including : Hebe ‘ Quicksilver ’ ( Hebe pimeleoides‘Quicksilver ’ , Zones 7–10 ) , false cypress ‘ Sungold ’ ( Chamaecyparispisifera filifera‘Sungold ’ , Zones 4–8 ) , allium ‘ Millenium ’ ( Allium‘Millenium ’ , Zones 4–8 ) , and geranium ‘ Roxanne ’
One of the unbelievable spell of rust-brown garden art that Lizzi created goes attractively with the glowing foliage of Japanese forest grass ‘ All atomic number 79 ’ ( Hakonechloamacra‘All Gold ’ , Zones 4–9 ) andcreeping Jenny(Lysimachia nummularia , Zones 4–8 )

mountain of fab leafage , but there is clear no shortage of flowers on display , too . Along with the coneflowers and geranium we saw before , Lizzi hasGomphrena globosa(annual),Tropicanna ® canna(Canna indica‘Phasion ’ , Zones 7–11 ) , and hydrangea Strawberry Sundae ® ( Hydrangea paniculata‘Strawberry Sundae ’ , zone 4–8 )
The above bed from another view shows off another funky garden sculpture and a beautiful bunch of lavender ‘ Martha Roderick ’ ( Lavandulaangustifolia‘Martha Roderick ’ , Zones 5–10 ) .
A stone garden in the shadiness that features many colorful foliage plant , including : Japanese forest grass , northerly Exposure ™ Purple heuchera ( Heucherax ‘ TNHEUNEP ’ , Zones 3–9 ) , ghost fern ( Athyrium‘Ghost ’ , Zones 4–9),Edgeworthiachrysantha(Zones 7–10 ) , Hosta , and geranium .

Lizzi ’s garden provision is really evident in this bed . fate of different texture and colour on exhibit here , but the way they are paired and placed creates a cohesive looking at rather than chaotic . Some stand outs let in : Lamb ’s ear , sweetened variegated iris , sedum ‘ Autumn Joy ’ ( Sedumspectabile‘Autumn Joy ’ , geographical zone 4–11 ) and in the way back Alpha Geminorum bean ‘ Carmencita ’ ( Ricinuscommunis‘Carmencita ’ , zone 8–12 or as an annual ) .
And a mythic plant pairing to attack us out of purplish coneflower and drumstick genus Allium ( Allium sphaerocephalon , Zones 4–8 ) .
Thank you for sharing this wild update , Lizzi ! unbelievable to see how much has interchange and grow in the past two years , and hope you persist in to update us on your garden ’s evolution !
