My localinformal horticulture groupWAS live to put on a garden tour , so when that could n’t I began try out with practical tours – online but with the choice that local TV audience could see many of the garden in mortal on their own time . For some reason I anticipate THREE virtual duty tour – for spring , summer and crepuscle .
For theVirtual Spring Garden TourI solicited garden photos and when they were all put together it was clear that the fabulousness of many of the gardens was lost . But I do it garden videos – I created a wholenonprofit website to curate them – so I make up one’s mind that our Summer Tour would be video - only !
in person , I ’d made only a few video in my life-time so was thrilled by the crack byGreenbelt Access TVto make them , with my nontechnical help . Perfect .

,
Melissa Mackey ’s garden is a good example of a garden that ca n’t be capture in pic alone . You need to walk through the narrow side - cubic yard path into the profuse , serene , very secret garden of a wildlife - loving , sprightliness - prospicient gardener and plant - accumulator . All that behind a townhouse .

Melissa in her garden.
For this garden I made a few video recording clips , recorded a tale about the garden that Melissa had compose , and sent it all to Phoebe McFarb at the station to put it all together . It was tops - easygoing for me and Melissa , too .
Melissa in her garden .
Melissa Mackey grow up on a farm in Southern Maryland and has been gardening around her home in Old Greenbelt since 1989 . She also relish grow vegetables in a Greenbelt Garden Club residential area garden patch . She is currently President of theBeltsville Garden Cluband Secretary of the Greenbelt Community Garden Club . She appreciates the generosity of fellow unpaid worker and gardener , from whom she ’s get word so much .

Amethyst
Like no doubt mountain of you , I ’ve been walking a lot since the closedown , and one route in peculiar had become my favorite – along Lakeside Drive , very close to my sign . Speed - walkers like me appreciate its smooth asphalt Earth’s surface without the tripping hazards along previous sidewalk , and there are almost no cars or other footer .
What it DOES have are dozens of real gardener who garden in the front yard for the delectation of all . ( give thanks you again to everyone who gardens where the public can gain from them ! )
For this video , Phoebe did all the filming , with me pointing out the 10 garden and any focal point she might zoom in on . Then I narrated pattern ideas that I thought people could glean from these gardens – not just by watching the video but by encounter those front yards in mortal . The quarry audience was primarily local .

Phoebe told me she bed shoot plants but this was her first time filming a whole garden , and she was excited about the task . Best of all , this is the street she grow up on , her parents still live there , and one of the garden on the duty tour was the home of her good protagonist during childhoods . So it was a great fit between subject and film maker ! It was fun working with her .
Amethyst and married man Dorian Winterfeld buy their townhouse 21 years ago , after living next door to it , look up to its gardens and interior renovations , and buying it as soon as it perish on the grocery store . The garden ’s established planting , pond and amenity had been installed back in 1982 by a old possessor who was a landscape painting designer . The designer had cleverly focused on secrecy and screening – in the front garden with lowly trees and shrubs along the pavement and in the back , with extensive privacy sieve .
The couple enjoyed their gardens without becoming gardeners until two age ago when Amethyst catch the horticulture glitch – big - time ! And this year during the pandemic shutdown , she ’s upped her game by develop not just alien blossoming plant but edibles , too . In pots , no less . And adding shade works to the cool Meditation Garden out back .
So I asked Amethyst to record some videos of her garden and she delivered , beam me three TV clipping with her own narration and included cameo by a cute dog and cheering husband . I cobble them together using a new video redaction program I ’m learning – Movavi . It ’s cheesy , prosperous to habituate , and reasonably comprehensive .
Amethyst is one of several newly strike gardeners in my neighborhood . find out them get hitched with the pleasure of gardening is my raw favorite thing .
alter thing up again , for the concluding three summer tour of duty I ’m doing the motion-picture photography and editing myself , but with pot of stimulant from the gardener themselves . I ’ll post the results here shortly .
