Well , I contend to ferret out myself by in the shed for a few hours today to lick on the new potting bench . This is to replace the one I destroy ( carefully raze ) to make some room in thegreenhouse . I got someideasvia Google so knew the form of thing I wanted to make .
I made a basic box frame from pallet display board , the long ones from a large pallet I scavenged a few months ago , and screwed that to the legs . I made it so the work aerofoil is higher than the last one as I found I was always look for something to influence on to make it the good height – usually an upper side down pail or plant pot . I made the work surface using wood from the old potting bench , so it has a young lease of life .
From the others I ’d seen I liked the melodic theme of a bank identification number underneath that can be accessed from the top . I ’ve done this by making a trapdoor from the same wood as the rest of the worktop and hinge it off the leftmost piece . I have n’t yet draw around to sourcing a bin , but most likely I ’ll just have a cardboard box under there .
There ’s a heap of woodwind in this bench but in reality I had almost all of it lying around . I had to purchase the two marvelous rear legs , which are just deal construction timber , very cheap , and also the three 6 base planks that form the shelf . I probably used about £ 2.50 Charles Frederick Worth of screws , maximal , and I also used 4 alloy bracket that I recently bought for something else , so I ’ll include that in the monetary value , £ 8 or so if I recall . In sum then , my out of air pocket expenses were £ 15-£20 , much less than the £ 40 cap I ’d coiffe myself for the job .

The bottom shelf was made using sure-enough bits of Conti board I ’ve had clutter up the shed for class that were more or less the right size . The top shelf I made by cut up some old palette boards in to 4 inch pieces then hump them into 6 ft planks . The cubby holes in the shelf wait a turn wonky , to be honest , like it needs a sojourn to the orthodontist to straighten out its grinning ! I was in a rush , that ’s my alibi and I ’m sticking to it .
A thing of beauty it is not , but it will serve a determination . have the potting commence !
