Winter has finally accept its clasp , and it ’s time to draw in up with a good book and a cup of tea .

Your novel deserves more than a fighting of composition tear from a nearby powder store to mark your place . If you have a few pressed herb left from fall preservation or have pots of herb on your windowsill or in the nursery , it ’ll be well-situated to craft these pretty bookmark . They make adorable gifts along with a favorite Scripture to share .

What You’ll Need:

Step 1: Press Your Herbs

Choose a sprig of your preferred herb that will fit on a bookmark : no longer than 6 inches and no blanket than 2 inch . Lay out the herbs on a vacuous piece of paper , spreading out the leaves to deflect overlap . Press in a flower press or between the pages of a heavy book of account with several more books on top for free weight . Let dry and flatten out for a week or so .

Step 2: Design The Herb Card

trim enceinte cardstock into strip , close to 7 inches by 2 inches .

Lay the herb twig on a tabloid of wax paper and coat with a Mod Podge . Flip over the wax newspaper and pose it on the cardstock . Cover with another weather sheet of wax paper , and weigh it down using something weighed down ( I used an old iron ) , so that the herb adheres to the paper . Let ironical for about 20 minutes , and then remove the weight and wax paper on top . Continue to countenance it to dry for several hour .

Step 3: Add Texture

Cut a piece of heavy handmade newspaper , 1/4 inch larger on each side of your herbaceous plant card , and glue the herb board in the center . Press with a weighted aim , and permit it dry for several hours . The herb card will have buckle a little from the wet , and the leaden target will drop it nicely .

Step 5: Add Embellishments

thin out eight lengths of six - ply fancywork thread 8 inches long . Punch a maw in the top of the bookmarker . fold up the train of thought in half and draw it through the punched hole . ( A crochet hook is handy for this . ) Pull the ends of the train of thought through the closed circuit . ransack the threads with a blackguard brush or cotton carder and pare .
