Ten Favourite Plants for August.
I have been AWOL again from the blogging world this month , because I have become obsessed by my late garden project which has left me with no energy or mindspace for anything else . I desire to finish it next weekend and then all will be revealed . And then I will be able to catch up with everybody .
In the lag , I can not let the calendar month err by without picking out my ten favourite plants . Yet again this a difficult job as there are so many to select from at this clock time of the year .
In no particular order then , I will set forth with a very graceful crocosmia which I bribe last yr , Crocosmia aurea‘Golden Ballerina ’ . It is similar to ‘ Star of the East ’ but much more graceful and with very big flowers .

Crocosmia aurea‘Golden Ballerina’
Crocosmia aurea‘Golden Ballerina ’
I never used to like crocosmias because I associate them with the weedy and invasive montbretia which is so unmanageable to get rid of . First of all I fell in love with the fiery crimson ‘ Lucifer ’ and he remained a ducky until he was superseded by the even better ‘ Hellfire ’ . ‘ Emily Mckenzie ’ is endearing too , with combust orange flowers with a dark blotch . A brace of class ago the gorgeous apricot ‘ Limpopo ’ became a best-loved and now I am search for ‘ Spitfire ’ which my horticulture friend and I vote a winner when we saw it of late in the spicy edge at Hyde Hall . Crocosmias are well-to-do from ejaculate and they total up with some surprises so it is deserving hold a go .

My ginger lily congener , hedychium is looking good in good order now . This lovely coral -coloured one is calledHedychium coccineum‘Tara ’ and unlike some hedychiums this one is hardy in my garden even though it front so exotic . Hedychiums are sometimes shy to flower and so I drug mine with Lycopersicon esculentum food .
Hedychium coccineum‘Tara ’
Daisy flowers are a feature of the august garden . I get laid genus Echinacea and so do the bees and butterflies . genus Echinacea purpureaspreads into nice big bunch .

Echinacea purpurea
Like many gardener I have been beguiled by some of the gorgeous novel echinacea hybrids over the last few year . unluckily they never survive the wintertime . At the Hyde Hall Flower show sooner this month I see a mythical one which is supposed to be winter audacious so perhaps I should have chance it . But I did n’t , so this is one that got aside . But is n’t it gorgeous ?
Echinacea‘Hot Papaya ’

Hedychium coccineum‘Tara’
Rudbeckias are gorgeous daisy flowers with a dark fundamental conoid and they come in a range of perennials or annuals . I screw the tallRudbeckia nitida‘Herbstonne ’ which grows to 6 feet marvelous and has buttercup chickenhearted flower with droopy flower petal .

Another perennial , Rudbeckia fulgida‘Goldsturm ’ makes a gracious argument with its promising daisy flowers .

I fell for this dark rust brownish rudbeckia crossbreed late . In fact it is Echibeckiasummerina ; a cross between a rudbeckia and an genus Echinacea . I did n’t realise when I buy it . I hope I have n’t traumatize you with such a travesty . I have no idea whether it is hardy or not . But I get laid the colour .

Echinacea‘Hot Papaya’
My last rudbeckia is a cheerful yearly which I grow every year . It isRudbeckia hirta‘Prairie Sun ’ . possibly next year I will have a alteration and adjudicate a unlike one .

And now for something coolheaded after all these hot color . The gentian- gloomy flowers ofCommelina dianthifoliaare quite little and only last for a mean solar day but as they are grow with such copiousness they produce a striking pictorial matter . They are comfortable from semen and blossom the first year .

I have plant them in a stool but as they form genus Tuber which are reckon to be reasonably intrepid I might try them in the ground .
Dahlias are a must for the August garden and I have quite a few , including some seed grown ones . But I will feature just one today and that is the lovelyDahlia‘Twyning ’s After Eight ’ which has such lovely dark foliation and delicate blossom .

I never used to wish hydrangea as I always colligate them with seaboard bungalows . There is nothing wrong with that , except I do n’t live at the seaside or in a cottage . But I have fall around to them in the last few years and now have several . I peculiarly likeHydrangea paniculata . This one which I grease one’s palms last year has the ridiculous name of ‘ Pinky Winky ’ . At the moment it should be call ‘ Wishy Washy ’ but last year it got darker as the season went on and gradually turned pink .

For number eight on my inclination I have chosen another bush . As far as I sleep with it is the only genus Mahonia which blooms in summertime . I love it for its glossy leaves and orangish prime . It isMahonia nitens‘Cabaret ’ .

I am very fond ofCrinum powelli . It has big pink trumpet flowers and blooms for a long time in former summer . It likes to have its bulbs planted so that the nose jut out from the soil and gets bake by the sun . The flower are slenderly fragrant .

For my last choice I have chosen the Pineapple plantEucomis autumnalis . I keep it in a pot so that it can live in the greenhouse in the wintertime . you may increase eucomis by leaf cutting or semen . I have a year honest-to-god seedling coming on which I am calculate forward to . Who get laid it might be something different .

So here we are , my top ten for August . If you would like to share your top ten or top five plants for this month I would make out to see them . And now it is time to entrance up a bit and see what everyone else has been doing in the garden whilst I have been fussy with my new task .

A fabulous post ! I really enjoy it when people share their favorites . I ’ve always love Mahonia ! I do n’t have any in my garden , but I love to see it when I chit-chat public gardens or friends ’ garden . 🙂
So many delights ! I adore that Mahonia but a quick check on - line suggests that it has n’t get on our side of the pool . I ’m planning a pet post for the death of the week , although I ’m not sure I ’ll come up with 10 plants – August is perhaps the lowest stage of our yr in the garden here .
