I am a bit late with my Top Ten September blooms , in fact I have n’t been here to see what was in flower for most of the month . The flowers I have consider are quite unlike the ones in my garden .
I have been in the inscrutable Mani area in the south Peloponnese . Here there are villages of grandiloquent , mediaeval pillar houses where citizenry fight bitter feud with their neighbours . Even today it feels very remote and some days we met more goats than people .
We last out in Stoupa in the shadow of the Taygetos mountains where Nikos Kazantzankis wroteZorba the Greekbased on a genuine local fictitious character . It was reversed to Crete in the film . But here is where the real Zorba lived .

We conk up the mountain to the magical site of Mystras , the ancient Byzantine majuscule . We purchase our tickets from a beautiful boy with soulful eyes with the face of a Byzantine saint .

We spent the night in the mountains overlook Sparta . All round down the Peloponnese in this ancient landscape painting you follow in the traces of fable and ancient history . Sparta is where the beautiful Helen was stolen away from Menelaus by Paris and this is what go the Trojan war . In the fifth 100 Leonidas , the Spartan B. B. King led an army of 300 hoplites to fight the Persians at the battle of Thermopylae

We pop off to Cape Tenaron , the southernmost full point of mainland Greece where Homer tells us the entry to Hades is guarded by Cerberus , the three- headed dog . We did n’t find the ingress to the Underworld but there is a tabernacle to the ocean god , Poseidon .
We went to down to cape Malea where Odysseus and his men were blow off course and land on the island of the lotus- feeder . Maybe they landed on the nearby beautiful and lonely island of Elafonisos surrounded by turquoise amniotic fluid and the most beautiful flaxen beach I have ever seen .

There were strange swimming fellow traveller . And then we finished up on the medieval castle townsfolk of Monemvasia which is built on a rock pose in the Myrtoan Sea . It is a magical place at any sentence but especially when the Sunday has just risen . Not much grows on this rock . add up home after spending most of September in Greece make me realise how lucky we are with the absolute range and copiousness of plants we can grow here . Although summertime is over there is still so much to savor in the garden ..
I am deplorable to be late with my Top Ten September blooms but I shall do the post very presently . and then I shall savor read about other September garden and catching up with my blogging friends .

Your beautiful travel shots earn you a toss on the holdup in get your top 10 list together . What gorgeous scenery ! I appreciated the historical and mythological commentary as well . My own garden looks like a dust bailiwick as the import and I can scarcely behave to look at it . I suppose there ’s no way for roofer to downplay the mess associate with their workplace .
