A cold garden full of flowers
Today we ’re back to Keith in chilly Zone 3 in Canada .
Today I would like to share photos of the latest development in my garden that I did n’t have room for in my early post(Keith ’s Zone 3 Garden)and some other random photos ofannualsand perennials .
This area was probably the most middle - catchingvignettein the garden up until 2021 . In the spring of 2022 the ground - level deck , tiered plant tolerate , and pebblestone slabs all had to be remove because the wood on the plant stands was rotted to the point it was insecure to rise up there forwatering .

Not only is this garden gainsay by the cold Zone 3 climate , but pee is also an issue . Since we live in the country , our piss fall from a well with limited provision , and it is ice cold . We collect up to 450 gallons of rainwater in four barrel . The vegetable gardenraised bedsand all the manycontainersare hand - water with 2 - congius water cans . In - dry land beds are in Mother Nature ’s hands for watering .
After much discussion a determination was made to replace the tiered construction with a simple ground - level composite deck , which slew back our one-year planting and daily lachrymation tremendously .
This pic is taken from a dissimilar slant but gives you a blossom at the unexampled composite pack of cards .

I mentioned this container in my original post , but there was n’t room for a photo . This was my grandma ’s cast - atomic number 26 maple sirup cauldron . Here it is planted with a red canna(Cannahybrid , Zones 8–10 or as a tender bulb ) , Inferno and Wasabicoleus(Coleus scutellarioides , Zones 10–12 or as annuals ) , impatiens(Impatienswalleriana , Zones 10–12 or as an annual ) , andZinnia‘Zahara Sunburst ’ ( annual ) .
Mexican firecracker vine(Ipomoealobata , Zones 10–12 or as an annual ) adorns a five - plex birdhouse that was a winter task .
It is astonishing how largeAmaranthus‘Tricolor ’ ( annual ) convey in a large pot . It is share its home here with lime sweet potato vine(Ipomoea batatas , zone 10–12 or as an yearly ) and Mexican banger vine .

Here is a typical one-year bed since we changed our color scheme to red , chicken , and orange . Any blueness , purple , etc . , are perennial from before the change . Featured here areRudbeckia‘Cherokee Sunset ’ ( zone 3–8 , usually grown as an annual ) , ‘ Love Lies Bleeding’amaranthus(Amaranthuscaudatus , yearly ) , andZinnia‘Zahara Sunset ’ .
Canna‘Cleopatra ’ in blush
One of three tree peonies(Paeoniahybrid , Zones 3–8 ) we have . There is also a red one and a yellow one . These are pushing the hardiness zone , but most days I extend them with Styrofoam boxes in the winter . I do n’t get mortality if they do n’t get covered , but they either do n’t blossom or the bloom are sparse .

My favorite lily , Lilium‘Hotel California ’ ( Zones 3–9 )
I think this isClematisintegrifolia(Zones 3–8 ) . It is a nonclimbing clematis , only about 3 feet tall . I have never had any luck winter a regular clematis .
