Today ’s photos come fromJan Johnsen , who also contributed yesterday ’s post . Jan is a garden designer from Mount Kisco , New York . Today she says , “ I experience in a part of the world where level land is hard to find . So , as a veteran professional fashion designer , I have developed a whole armoury of way to chasten steep incline . Here is one result I come up with : build a mortared stone bulwark to retain part of a hillside and instal semicircular step and slop grass steps on the rest side . The bluestone step and landing lead the visitant out beyond the confines of the rampart and the blanket and curve grass treads ply a elegant line of descent . The tree diagram on the right side of the pic is the ‘ Ivory Silk ’ Nipponese tree lilac ( Syringa reticulata‘Ivory Silk ’ , USDA Hardiness zone 3 - 8) . It is a wonderful summer blooming Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . The flower border in front of the Isidor Feinstein Stone wall contains ‘ Walker ’s Low ’ catmint ( NepetaXfaassenii‘Walker ’s Low ’ , zona 4 - 8) and ‘ Honorine Jobert ’ Japanese sea anemone ( AnemoneXhybrida‘Honorine Jobert ’ , zone 4 - 8) , among other perennials . Boxwoods atop the wall by the gradation act as a safety barrier . ” Beautiful , Jan , thanks for sharing ! you’re able to get a line more from Jan at herblog .
