We ’re taking a break from garden this week and focusing instead on primitive arms . Fear not , timid souls : I ’ll be back on horticulture again next calendar week .
My obeisance
The first weapon system one would likely require in the absence seizure of a gun is a bow and a set of arrows .
Unfortunately , bows and arrows really do n’t go for home defense . The arc is too bulky and repeated shots are hard to pull off at curt range and with enough focal ratio to take down an intruder .
Yet a fore is a good arm for hunting secret plan or lease down a vulture attacking your Gallus gallus . Again – not nearly as secure as a gun , but that ’s why soldiers transmit rifles and not longbows . engineering has march on .
When it comes to choose a bow , one has to consider their options . Are you look to hunt down or direct shoot ? Are you looking for mellow accuracy or for simplicity ?
My bow
When I went looking for a bow at a local archery shop I was blown away by the complexity ( and price ) of some of the compound prow available . Compound bows are high - tech pointer - throwing machine with incredible truth .

That ’s a far cry from this :
I say you really ca n’t call a compound give in a rude weapon – though I balk at calling the English longbow a primitive weapon either . It was a work of wonderful craftsmanship and had a drawing string attract beyond the capacity of most modernistic archers .

But I digress .
I decided to start my foray into archery by jump over all the complicated stuff and go powerful for a elementary recurve bow . The most regularly advocate entrance - tier bow I found was the Samick Sage . I wish the fact that the bow is simple , beautiful and well - build – plus it ’s got eminent ratings on Amazon .
A chemical compound bow needs to be set up and string at an archery show . With a recurve curtain call like the Sage , you’re able to thread it yourself and be shooting in no time .
I like the simplicity . That pronounce , you could go even simpler and make your own bow with a machete – like this guy :
That ’s just coolheaded .
My destination is to become good enough with my recurve bowing that I can do some hunting and maybe pink out the occasional domestic fowl predator .
