In the fall , you ’ll often see wampum cane for sale at roadside green goods stands . If you’re able to keep yourself from chewing it all , it ’s promiscuous to plant and raise . I lay to rest multiple cane in the fall of 2011 and get a nice harvesting in the declination of 2012 . Now I ’ve go bigger and planted a bunch more .

I doubly - dug a serial of trenches and miss in cane segment . The dirt should keep it alive until saltation when it ’ll pop up and make a nice bed . Sugar cane is truly beautiful and looks a band like bamboo . It sour well in a garden bed , a food forest , or even an comestible landscape .
Fortunately , sugar cane does not require boggy conditions . I had it maturate quite well mixed into my seldom - watered food forest out front .
incentive : lolly cane is a perennial ! Once you get a stand going , it can keep grow for long time .

My wife desire to make cane syrup , so I ’m growing tons . Actually , there ’s really no cause to maturate quite as much as I am , but darn it … I just want to .
Interestingly , I pluck up two different eccentric of sugar cane from two unlike farm stands . One kind has green canes and one has maroon . Neither seem to be good chewing varieties , even though they ’re luscious . I ’m venture it ’s “ crystal cane , ” i.e. , the type you make commercial-grade cane moolah from .
After accept the photo above , I buried the canes under about 4″ of grime … and dig out in another wrangle or two . I. CAN’T. STOP . PLANTING . SUGARCANE !
