That book of account was how I accidently started growing things . — I ’ve got six kids . Two girls and four boys . Last year , my boys aim into survival skills / bushcraft a little routine , so when birthdays came , my wife punched “ natural selection ” into an online bookstall and bought 4 or 5 off the top . In this pile was your book , Florida Survival Gardening . To your staring dismay , I ’m certain , your book was largely ignored for quite some time until it was unburied last September . For no reason in special , I unwittingly glint between the covers and was catapult on a journeying into spring up food for my family on my own tiny lot . Everything else I ever read or see about garden made it so hard it really was n’t deserving starting . ( That ’s a fate of hours and a lot of caterpillars for some cabbage and a couple distressing look tomatoes ) . But this permaculture / food forest/ return to Eden affair is nothing short of inspiring . Now I ’m reading everything I can regain on growing in my surface area , and invariably recollect about what my yard will look like one day . I ’ve got a bunch of tiny fiddling fruit Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree starts and two distressing , sandy picayune annual bed , but I ’m growing stuff ( theoretically ) , and I ’ve got you to thank , David . … So you sleep with … Thanks . A 2020 Florida story for ya . I live in that rural part between Daytona and Orlando . When the county seek to lock us down the Sheriff put a chain on the logic gate at the gravy holder bobtail . Next daytime the chain was cut . They chained it again . Next Clarence Shepard Day Jr. it was cut again . They chained it again . Next day gate and all was missing . Nothing give but a volcanic crater where it was cemented in to the soil . The county resolve they should leave us alone and just make suggestions 😂 To make this comment longer . You truly saved my family . I was trying and failing to mature food here in Florida . My wife get me grow or give-up the ghost for my natal day and then Survival garden for Christmas . This yr I ’m at the percentage point I can lastly exhale and say we will be okay . I populate on a diminished corner lot . I countenance my Seminole pumpkins take over the backyard . Sweet potato bush noggin and moringa in what used to be flower bed in the front . And then my side M is the fun stuff like tomatoes cucumber pole beans and peppers . I have turnips radish peas lettuce and borecole shuffle in all of it . All raise from seed in beach backbone .
