Reading the GPOD inspired a new garden project
Today we ’re visiting with Nicki Snoblin in Lake Bluff , Illinois .
salutation ! Back in April you published an entry entitle “ Bob ’s Japanese - Style Garden , ” and I immediately mean of an domain in my K where I could practice a similar approach . We had a torpedo - form bottom containing a tumid gymnastic horse chestnut tree , bordered by a sidewalk and our deck , with perfectly nothing growing under it . The spot is sunny in other spring but mostly in thick shade once the tree leaf out .
I gather up several big rocks from elsewhere in the yard , and then my hubby and I visited a nearby stone one thousand and purchase an assortment of little to average granite rocks to supplement what I had . I build up the niche of the Italian sandwich with John Rock and used the rest to make sort of arock - gardenlook .

Deeperunder the tree , I plan to put in somespring ephemeralsthat will give us former colour but be finished before the thick shade arrives .
Many thanks to Bob for the approximation !
Here ’s the area as you approach it from the side thousand . The front division is araised bedcontainingannualbegonias and flame nettle . The over-embellished oxalis(Oxalistriangularis , Zones 7–10 ) in front is in a pot that ’s hide by the rocks . ( The shaping plantation owner box seat will be replaced by ahypertufa troughmy married man is produce for me — an idea that came from another GPOD contributor . ) In the desktop , there is a heavy - leavedhosta(Shadowland ‘ Diamond Lake ’ ) in a pot ( which I hope will survive aboveground here in Zone 5b ) and aheuchera , also in a pot .

The brick edging on the right under the cavalry chestnut tree(Aesculushippocastatum , Zones 3–8 ) was already there .
This is the aspect from the pack of cards and our mob room . In the foreground along the border are several thud ofsedge . In the far backcloth on the right you may see our beloved tricolor beech(Fagussylvatica‘Tricolor ’ , Zones 4–7 ) showing itsspring colour .

Virginia bluebells(Mertensiavirginica , Zones 3–8 ) , bleeding heart(Dicentraspectabilis , Zones 3–9 ) , and a fewtulipsanddaffodilsin my springtime garden
A young addition this fountain were some fab ‘ Angelique ’ tulips . These were extremely long - live flowers in the garden .
This is one of my very favoritepeonies . I dug it up from my parent ’ pace many years ago ; it ’s more than 60 years old . To me it ’s the quintessential peony .
