July brings an abundant bounty of blooms to this gorgeous garden in the Hawkeye State

Hi GPODers !

We ’re back in the garden of a frequent Garden Photo of the Day contributor , Kathy Schreurs in Sheldon , Iowa . She has shared so many great photograph of her garden and the industrial plant arrangement she has created over the years ( check a smattering of those out , here : Not Only Violets Are Blue , Iowa Spring , Bringing the Outdoors In , Vintage Wall Pockets Full of Flowers , andKathy ’s Iowa Garden ) , and today she ’s back with a look at what was blooming in July .

Hello , my name is Kathy , and I garden with my hubby in a small town in Iowa . I ’ve enjoy submitting photos in the past times to GPOD .

Our property , an oversized city mass , is separate into sections by picket fence that were first build by a previous proprietor ten ago . One section separates the front yard from the back , and I can see it from a kitchen windowpane .

A view out to Kathy ’s various garden segments , with the white-hot picket fence that define the different section just barely in few behind the endless streams of gorgeous summertime flowers .

As the mailman said late , “ I love the olfaction of your yard . ” So do I. The aroma ofsummer phlox(Phlox paniculata , Zones 4–8)andOrienpet liliesis amazing ! They ’re especially fragrant when the humidity is high and — this is Iowa in midsummer — it usually is !

daisy pop up and peek through the phlox as the lily get to evanesce away .

A peep over the fencing at the backyard in mid - July .

I conceal some deal along the edges of the side yard garden . This Kong coleus(Solenostemonscutellarioides‘King Kong ’ , Zones 10–11 or as an annual)and a pot ofnicotianaare tucked up against the fencing and seeable when I come out of a side door .

A separate garden field is a footling more orderly than the garden view from my kitchen window , and a itinerary run through it .

The entrance to this garden is bee and butterfly busy right now . Both love the alliums . If you depend cautiously , you could discern an easterly Panthera tigris swallow-tailed coat . The goldenrod just beyond it will presently be a graphic yellow .

Around the 4th of July , Asian lilies add colouring material and excitement . I love the Tango sort .

A closer look at those lily shows off their beautiful pink colouration . If you face close enough , you ’ll notice little rosiness of yellow-bellied as well … what a marvellous variety !

‘ Truffula ’ gomphrena(Gomphrena pulchella‘PAST0517E ’ , annual)are reliable and stout bloomers properly up until Robert Lee Frost . And they do n’t mind that we ’ve had very little rain in July .

By mid - July the hydrangeas are opening , and the ‘ Sun King ’ aralia(Aralia cordata‘Sun King ’ , Zones 3–8)has reached its full ontogenesis for the summertime .

On the other side of the path from the aralia , I have a pollyannaish group of annual . This year the hoot invest me with alarkspur(Consolidaajacis , annual)—there is a patch of them in the backyard — and it adds a nice exclamation point , I think , to the low - lie annuals around it . July just might be my favorite season in the garden .

Thanks for the flower - filled update on your garden , Kathy ! Always a delight to see the amazing plants you ’re rise , and go for to see some of the amazing indoor musical arrangement you make with all these unbelievable blooms !
