While we ’ve become more accustomed to the norms of our country homestead — the glum starry nights , the sound of tractors echoing through the holler , the 24 - 60 minutes symphony of wildlife , the relentlessness of bite germ — we have n’t been here long enough for this lifestyle ’s surprises to become commonplace . The latest incident to supply to the litany of unexpected spirit changes is the source of our insomnia .
