intellectual nourishment really is medicine . I love this time of year because all of us gardeners and herbalists have been and still are preserving the crop . We have been putting our garden bounty up in many ways : canning , pickling , turn , infusing , dry and freezing . Besides stocking our pantries and cold rooms , we are guess of what we can create and portion out for vacation gifts for friends and kinsperson .
of late , I got together with a grouping of corresponding - minded women to make flame cider . This infusion will keep us and our loved one healthy during the cold and flu season . And we had a blast herborizing together ! There is nothing more satisfying then getting together with other herbies and create healthfood food , beverages , remedies and product for induce our spirit good for you .

I love my herbal communities and go to a number of organizations and local grouping . This radical , the Sage Sisters , initiate meeting about a year ago and are working together through Rosemary Gladstar ’s “ Science and Art of Herbalism ” course . Although , I completed my herbal apprentice with Rosemary in 2004 - 2005 , I am delighted and inspired to attend to these gathering as it renew my brain and spirit and I get to make novel herbal formulations .
We assemble once a month and we all bring wonderfully tasty nutrient and libations for a potluck and ingredients for our projects . We had homegrown chile peppers , garlic , horseradish , turmeric root word , elderberries and sweet herbs for our ardour cider making . Each of us bring a dry quart of organic apple cider vinegar and two , empty , quart - sized mason shock with lids , our assigned ingredients , tongue and cutting board . After a splendid dejeuner , neat conversation and catching up with one another ’s lives – this is truly what community gathering is all about – we got to turn .
We used the new bookFire Cider!with Rosemary ’s canonic flame - cyder recipe and one of mine:/item/130096 / elderberry - and - fire - cyder - elixirto make our infusion . There was much fun in Wendy ’s kitchen as we moisten , peeled , chopped and mince and then began to develop our fire ciders .

I set out with the fundamental principle in both of my jars : horseradish , onions , garlic , ginger and red-hot peppers ; and then I made them dissimilar . Although , I do n’t often employ turmeric in fire cider , Helen harvested and brought fresh turmeric root from the Green Farmacy Garden , so I used unfermented Curcuma longa in both of them – and we all supply a few peppercorns to facilitate in the assimilation of the turmeric . One of my jars has gamboge and elderberries and the other jar has orange and pomegranate seeds . Rosemary , thyme and salvia are the seasonal robust herb additions . I am certain that these will be the best fire cyder vinegars that I have ever created !
Tis the season to gather with your biotic community and screw unity – get together and spend time form something together – whether it is fervor cider , bath bombs , cookies , applesauce , cards or whatever . Make time to be with friends and kin and keep this season whether it is creating , just relax with a libation or hot burnt umber and popcorn , walking in the woods or watching Jupiter and Venus set in the night sky . I am thankful to have these rattling opportunites of sharing and lionize life .
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours !
