After a very cold spring , this gardener decided to spend Earth Day in the garden with my hands in the earth . What better way to keep Earth Day than communing with nature ?

It was a gross spring twenty-four hour period – sunny and cool – at least the gale - force malarky seem to have abated . Yesterday and today up until 1:09 phase modulation this afternoon , we were in a 2nd fourth synodic month , in the sign of Cancer , which is a fruitful planting sign , so I wanted to get my aboveground plant transplanted and seeds sown before the lunation traveled into Leo which is a barren signboard . ( I really believe that with the waxing and waning of the moon affecting the lunar time period of our oceans and the moisture in the earthly concern ( not to mention we human beings ) , that planting by the moon does have an affect on the works we acquire . )

I transplanted all of the baby greens and brassicas and then water them in , which is of utmost importance . I sowed come of more salad admixture , annual herbs , hardy glowering greens , and some of my favorite comestible flowers like calendula and Nasturtium . And I accomplished this job before 1 pm ; although then I pass more time , making labels – using wooden craft stick of the tongue depressor size – rather than the plastic kind of rag that breaks and does n’t last the season . And then drawing the architectural plan of what was planted in each layer in my gardening notebook computer .

Keeping a daybook with the garden plan is a serious idea , since label do have a tendency to disappear throughout the growing season . I keep racetrack of the particular date plant , the sign of the synodic month , the type of seed sown , its botanic name , and seed source . This is a good idea , so I can front back on my notes and recognize the plants that I require to grow again , or perhaps ace that I do not care to cultivate .

There are dependable planting particular date for annuals and leafy greens later in the week and then with the full pinkish lunation on the 29th of April , the lunation begins to wane and it is prison term to implant root crop again . I look forward to the monthly lunar cycle and coincide my planting date accordingly .
