Flowers that look just as good in a vase as in the garden
Today ’s photos are from Kathy Schreurs in northwestern Iowa .
March is here , but regardless of what the calendar will say in a few weeks , mostspring flowerswill not make their show in my molding until previous inApril . So yesterday I quieted my spring fever by scroll through my camera cast , enjoying both backyard rosiness and indoor bouquets . Temperature and climate variation and the Iowa prairie wind , often bare-assed and bitter , often encourage me to cull my peak and bestow them indoors to revel .
I ’ve read some warnings that gloriole - of - the - snow(Chionodoxa luciliae , zone 3–8 ) may beinvasive , but that ’s never been a problem for me . I ’ve had to replant more than once , and of trend , I pick the atmospheric condition . I wish to plant them near the drive so that I do n’t look out over them when they emerge . Sometimes I ’ve mistaken the first ones for bits of tissue paper scattered by the wind .

Glory - of - the - C and crocus(Crocusvernus , Zones 3–8 ) make a wonderfulearly springbouquet .
Tulips(Tulipahybrids , Zones 3–8 ) mingle with former whiskery irises(Irishybrid , bearded group , Zones 3–9 ) and Virginia bluebells(Mertensiavirginica , Zones 3–8 ) .
Indoors , a few tulip efflorescence unite a sprig of bleeding heart(Dicentraspectabilis , Zones 3–8 ) and a tiarella(Tiarella‘Sugar and Spice ’ , Zones 4–9 ) foliage .

clean bloom make me glad . Snowdrop anemones(Anemonesylvestris , Zones 4–8 ) make me especially glad ! Mine live under a canopy of Solomon ’s seal(Polygonatumodoratum‘Variegatum ’ zone 3–8 ) .
Jacob ’s run ( Polemoniumreptans , Zones 3–8 ) flower with cloud of softblue flowers .
And the anemone and Jacob ’s ladder look wonderful together in a drab teapot , with some sturdy lily - of - the - valley(Convallaria majalis , Zones 2–7 ) leaves .

Most of mytulipsare imbed close to the house , so they get some protection . But I normally commit between 70 and 100 in this bed near the street .
And tulips always are amazing in a vase — a mythologic way to bring the out-of-doors in .
These tulips were from the year I plantedorange !

Inside , the tulip beam in a copper vase my female parent loved .
