Gardening
Yes , I finally comitted something to newspaper . I have gone through a yoke of microscope stage in this physical process . FirstI looked at what was in the perimeter already that I wanted to keep ( or chuck ) . Next I demand to get a handgrip on all the propagation activity and begin opine through the plants I should have usable , their attributes and possible companions . I built a little database which you may read abouthere . in the end though , I need to put pencil to newspaper .
I measured the border so I have intercourse what I have . The basic build is an elongated “ U ” , with the tenacious side run along the fence crinkle and the two ending borders enclosing that one-half of the lawn . There is a mirror of this on the other side of the lawn , but that ’s not in setting of this task ( yet … ) .

The mansion is to the left of Border 1 , the veggie temporary hookup , nursery etc is to the rightfield of Border 3 and the fence runs along the back of Border 2 . I ’m treating each edge as a separate design , with some opinion given to knitting them together .
mete 2 gets the most Dominicus , it ’s more or less south - lining , Border 1 gets the sunshine in the morning , Border 3 gets the Lord’s Day in the afternoon . The sun passes from back of the garden to the front and over the house as the day progresses ( justly to leave behind as you look at the picture above . Border 1 was 0.6 m deep but over the bank vacation weekend I sacraficed some lawn , repeat the bottom to 1.2 m deep . This will give a bit more room for industrial plant , see photo below .
It looks quite neat and tidy , butt against and mulched . Almost a disgrace to make it untidy by planting in it ! I ’d ideally have them all a couple of feet deeply to allow for a greater range of planting , but that might have to wait a few age till the mounting build is extra to requirements .

Basic layout. Far from revolutionary.
I ’ve decided to have Border 2 as a mostly “ hot ” border color - wise and Borders 1 and 3 more to the coolheaded end of the spectrum . It wo n’t be absolutely delineate like this I expect . I ’ve no doubt I ’ve committed some heinous edge designfaux pas , many of them , probably . I picture I ’ll just phone the modification if some things do n’t work . I intend that ’s half the playfulness .
Here is rendering 1 . If you tap it you could soar in and gave a face around . I recall it needs some workplace still .
Even I clamber to interpret this film , it ’s a little crammed in . I ’ve decide I need a bigger scale , Version 2 is 5 cm to 1 m. I ’ve part the long border into two parts to fit it on the page . I ’m glad I did interlingual rendition 2 – I double checked measurements and they were off by a couple of feet , partly because I leave to account for the broadening of Border 1 .

Space for more plants, less lawn and less mowing!
After an time of day with the dyed pencils , here they are in all their glory . Click and zoom in to check it out .
I should be capable to get going plant in a few hebdomad once plants have get on a bit and hardened off . I allow the rightfield to alter my mind ! There are a just few works variety that I have n’t been able-bodied to factor out in to these design because they have n’t yet evolve . If that changes in the next few weeks I may find a office for them . Of naturally , I may also have some loss that make a second thought . I ’m not too distressed though as the other half of the garden is next and that has some quad for any that are tolerant of a bit of shade .
I ’ve found this pattern project to be far more unmanageable than the process of growing and propagating the plants . This is basically down to want of experience or grooming , so I am feeling my way , using a band of books to aid . I ’ll make a list of the references I ’ve used and post that separately .

Version 1 design.
I ’ll be back , with an update on growing progress , planting out , design tweaks and so on .
