The results of decades of hard work and love
Today we ’re visit Cheryl Joslin ’s garden in Warren , Vermont .
I am very grateful to have the backyard that I have . It ’s taken me 20 years to get what I have now , but the next 20 are also looking promising for more and more flowers .
A tapestry of dissimilar flowers create a exuberant , intimate , cottage - garden look .

A dense planting of red bee balm ( Monardadidyma , Zones 4–9 ) , orange daylilies ( Hemerocallisfulva , Zones 3–9 ) , and pink everlasting pea ( Lathyruslatifolius , Zones 3–8 ) . All three of these plants are vigorous agriculturalist and can propagate a minuscule too aggressively , which is why institute them together is genius . They ’re all strong enough to compete with each other and thrive , rather than overwhelming less vigorous plants .
The tall borderline of bloom to the right , a small greenhouse , and beautiful view of the Vermont landscape behind make this look like a nurseryman ’s promised land .
A mixture of perennials , with , in the back , what are certainly the magniloquent spires of foxgloves ( Digitalispurpurea , Zones 3–8 ) I have ever ascertain ! Cheryl knows how to grow plant huge and happy !

In this row of perennials blooming along the boundary of the porch , there ’s a skillful reminder that though we usually get hostas for their leaves , many varieties have beautiful lilac-colored blossom as well .
And a final injection of a old maid ( Zinniaelegans , annual ) in flower . Zinnias may be the single most commonly seen blossom in the GPOD — and for good reason : They are well-off and cheap to originate from seed , flower all summertime , make terrific cut flowers , and are staggeringly popular with butterflies and other pollinators . Every garden needs some old maid flower !
